| Greetings and thanks for looking at the website. I’m Auctioneer Ian Whyte and I own and operate Whyte House Auctions llc . This is my story of how I came to be an Auctioneer and our progress of the business so far. Before all of this... I had pretty good job as a Journeyman Tile setter with the Union. I got mad at the boss and quit the only outfit in town with work. I flopped around a bit and tried to work but to my dismay I never could find much that was steady with good pay. I wound up going to a lot of Garage Sales and to the Flea Markets after my Folks dragged us all over the place looking for junk to sell on this Ebay thing when they we're visiting from Washington. It looked like they we're having fun, so I got a computer and started selling too. I enjoyed some success selling on Ebay. and with the garage sales and the flea Market and I finally went to my first auction, Stokes in Port Orchard , Washington. I was hooked , so much stuff, so cheap, hidden treasures and the chant and banter of the auctioneer. I was hooked on auctions and I went a lot. Well somehow I got this crazy idea that I could learn to be a Auctioneer and make lot’s of money doing it . I heard that contract Auctioneering can be very lucrative. They fly all over the place and they make all sorts of money. It’s going to be great ! So off to Billings, Montana I go. I learned a lot about cowboy's and how to auctioneer. Western College of Auctioneering has had many graduates that are Champion bid callers. It was a lot of fun and they taught me everything I needed to know to build a good foundation for the business. After ,I graduated I tromped all over Colorado to call bids anywhere people would let me. I tried pretty hard to get a job as a Auctioneer, but I realized that it's a pretty hard to break into. No one ever did pay me but I really appreciated the experience and it made me hungry for more. I realized that if I wanted to be Auctioneer I needed to start my own Auction business. We had our first auction in my backyard . I passed out a bunch of flyers and got the neighbors to consign stuff. We ended up with a pretty good auction and people showed up . I was hooked. Shortly after our debut in the backyard we ended up with this incredible estate auction that was pretty successful. We booked a few estate auctions and a couple of charity events before I decided that things were not going fast enough and that we needed to open a Auction House so we would have a place to have regular sales. I found a place I could afford to rent and started taking consignments. We had auctions every 2 weeks or so and tried some different times and days before we stuck with the Saturday morning spot for a while. It was good We had some big auctions at that dinky little place on Moline St. It got so crazy we finally had to move to a bigger place. Moline was pretty small and we overtook everything on auction day. The neighbors started complaining and we knew it was time to go. Our current location is perfect for the auction. We have plenty of room to grow into before we have to think about moving again. The place has lot's of shelving for displaying items, and a expansive auction floor . There is plenty of parking and we are located just a few blocks south of I-70. We have the Auction Every Saturday Night now. I am still learning by trail and error. Win or Lose. Being a first generation Auctioneer and never even owning a business before has been a great challenge and a life experience I will never regret. I learn something new every week about my business and our customers. Whyte House Auctions has a lot of potential and I look forward to years of future service selling abroad and at our Auction House on Paris St. In Denver. --- So thanks a bunch we couldn't do it without you ! ----- Ian Whyte |
